A Gambler's Anatomy (2016, Doubleday) is a novel by Jonathan Lethem about Alexander Bruno, a backgammon hustler who travels the world taking money from wealthy amateurs and believes he can read minds. When a blot spreads across his vision and he collapses during a match in Berlin, a crass childhood acquaintance, Keith Stolarsky, offers to pay for experimental surgery in Berkeley, the city where Bruno discovered his psychic gift and swore never to return.
