"A Problem from Hell": America and the Age of Genocide
Categories: History, Politics & Social Sciences
Samantha Power examines how the United States responded to the genocides of the twentieth century, from the killing of Armenians and the Holocaust to Cambodia, Iraq's Kurds, Bosnia and Rwanda. Using interviews and declassified records, she shows how American officials repeatedly knew what was happening and chose not to intervene, and traces Raphael Lemkin's campaign to define genocide in law. It won the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction.
