Age of Discovery: Navigating the Storms of Our Second Renaissance
Categories: Business & Money, History
Age of Discovery (Bloomsbury) by Ian Goldin and Chris Kutarna of Oxford compares the world since 1990 with the European Renaissance of 1450 to 1550. The authors pair Gutenberg's printing press with the internet, the voyages of Columbus and da Gama with globalization, and Copernicus with scientific breakthroughs in genetics and computing. They show how the same forces that bred genius in Michelangelo's day also produced upheaval and extremism, and argue that openness, collaboration and fairer sharing of gains can help this era flourish.

This book will help the world courageously embrace the potential of collective intelligence and ensure we understand the lessons from the past and realise the opportunities ahead of us in this "New Renaissance".”
