Age of Revolutions: Progress and Backlash from 1600 to the Present
Categories: History, Politics & Social Sciences
In Age of Revolutions (2024), journalist Fareed Zakaria traces revolutions in economics, technology and identity from the seventeenth century to the twenty-first, and the backlashes they provoked. Zakaria begins with the Dutch Republic and England's Glorious Revolution, then turns to the French and Industrial Revolutions. He argues that globalisation, the information revolution and shifts in identity politics have produced a similar backlash since the 1990s, and considers how liberal societies can respond.
