Alex Haley: The Playboy Interviews

By Alex Haley

Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, Politics & Social Sciences

Before Roots, Alex Haley conducted many of the long interviews that defined the Playboy Interview, and this 1993 collection, edited by Murray Fisher, gathers them. Subjects include Miles Davis, in the magazine's first Playboy Interview, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr. and Cassius Clay, along with Johnny Carson. Haley also sat down with the American Nazi Party leader George Lincoln Rockwell. Together the interviews record American conversations about race, fame and politics across two turbulent decades.
