America at the Crossroads: Democracy, Power, and the Neoconservative Legacy
Categories: Politics & Social Sciences
America at the Crossroads (2006) is Francis Fukuyama's break with the neoconservative movement he had been linked to. He traces neoconservatism's roots and argues that the Bush administration misapplied its ideas in the Iraq War, overestimating American power and underestimating the difficulty of nation-building. He proposes an alternative he calls realistic Wilsonianism, which relies less on military force and more on multilateral institutions, economic development and soft power.
