Antony and Cleopatra
Categories: Drama, Literature & Fiction
Shakespeare drew on Plutarch for this Roman tragedy, written around 1606 and first printed in the 1623 First Folio. Mark Antony, one of three men ruling the Roman world, lingers in Alexandria with Cleopatra, queen of Egypt, neglecting his duties in Rome. Called home by his wife's death and a threat from Pompey, Antony makes a political marriage to Octavia, sister of Octavius Caesar, but Egypt keeps drawing him back.
