Bartholomew and the Oobleck
By Dr. Seuss
Categories: Children's Books
Dr. Seuss's 1949 picture book, told in prose, brings back Bartholomew Cubbins, who serves as page boy to King Derwin of Didd. Tired of the same rain, sun, fog and snow, the king orders his royal magicians to make something different fall from the sky. The magicians conjure oobleck, a sticky green goo that gums up the royal bell, traps a robin in her nest, plugs the trumpeter's horn and threatens to flood the kingdom, while Bartholomew tries to persuade the king to take responsibility.

- Richard Branson: “I have been reading a lot of books by one of my favourite authors, Dr Seuss... There is more wisdom and humour in his cartoons and rhymes than in any number of lengthy and highbrow books.”
