Between the World and Me
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs
Written as a letter to his teenage son, Ta-Nehisi Coates's book asks what it means to live in a Black body in America, a country built in part on the idea of race. Coates traces his own awakening, from his childhood home to Howard University, Civil War battlefields, and Paris. He reckons honestly with the history of slavery and segregation and with the violence that continues to fall on Black Americans. It won the National Book Award.
