Black Oak

Black Oak (2022) is a collection of illustrated odes by Chicago poet Harold Green III honouring contemporary Black men, a companion to his collection of odes to Black women, Black Roses. Its poems, many first shared on Instagram, are grouped under headings such as Bravehearts, Champions, Dreamers, Guardians and Humanitarians. Subjects include LeBron James, Colin Kaepernick, John Legend, Chance the Rapper and Ta-Nehisi Coates, alongside his own father. Green writes to expand how Black men speak to and about each other.
