Canal Dreams
By Iain Banks
Categories: Literature & Fiction
Hisako Onoda, a Japanese cellist with a fear of flying, sets out for Europe aboard an oil tanker. When political unrest closes the Panama Canal, her ship is stranded with several others on Gatun Lake. Armed guerrillas then seize the trapped vessels and their crews, and Hisako, who has a history of political protest in Japan, is drawn into violence she never imagined. Banks's thriller follows how she responds when pushed to extremes.
