Capital in the Twenty-First Century
By Thomas Piketty
Categories: Business & Money
French economist Thomas Piketty studies wealth and income inequality in Europe and the United States since the eighteenth century. The book was first published in French in 2013 and in English in 2014. His central argument is that when the return on capital exceeds the rate of economic growth over the long term, wealth becomes more concentrated, threatening to generate extreme discontent and undermine democratic values. Piketty proposes a global progressive tax on wealth to reduce inequality.
