Chokepoints: American Power in the Age of Economic Warfare
Categories: Business & Money, Politics & Social Sciences
In Chokepoints (2025), former State Department official Edward Fishman tells the story of how the United States learned to use sanctions, export controls and control of the financial system as weapons. Fishman follows the officials who built these tools, from the campaign against Iran's nuclear programme to sanctions on Russia after 2014 and 2022 and restrictions on Chinese technology. He examines what economic warfare can and cannot achieve, and its risks for the global economy.
