Coleman Hill (2023, SJP Lit) is Kim Coleman Foote's debut novel, drawn from her own family history and the record of the Great Migration. In 1916 Celia Coleman and Lucy Grimes leave the racism and poverty of the South for Vauxhall, New Jersey, only to find that the North holds its own bigotries: domestic work, scarce money and early deaths. The two women lean on each other, their families become entwined, and nine relatives narrate the consequences across three generations.
