Covenant & Conversation: Genesis, the Book of Beginnings (2009) is the first of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks's five volumes of essays on the weekly Torah portion, drawn from the weekly Torah commentaries he wrote under the Covenant & Conversation name. Sacks reads Genesis as a book about families: the creation story, Abraham's call, sibling rivalries and the long story of Joseph and his brothers. Drawing on Jewish commentary, philosophy and literature, he traces how the covenant between God and humanity begins with individuals learning to live with one another.
