Covenant & Conversation: Numbers, the Wilderness Years (2017) is the fourth of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks's five volumes of essays on the weekly Torah portion, drawn from the weekly Torah commentaries he wrote under the Covenant & Conversation name. Numbers follows the Israelites through forty years in the desert, and Sacks focuses on its crises of leadership and faith: the people's complaints, the spies' report on the promised land, Korah's rebellion and Moses' own failings. He reads the book as a study of how a free people learns to govern itself.
