Danger Zone (2022) by Hal Brands and Michael Beckley argues that the greatest risk of conflict between the United States and China falls in the 2020s. The authors contend that China is a rising power whose growth is slowing, and that such powers become most dangerous when their window of opportunity starts to close. They set out a strategy for the United States and its allies to deter aggression, especially over Taiwan, through this period.

- Vinod Khosla: “My read is that China will peak in the next 10y. ... But that makes China more dangerous as it grows desperate and gets stuck in an economic slowdown, with $1T of bad debt outstanding. The Thucydides Trap in reverse. Recommend reading Danger Zone”
