Powerlifter Andy Bolton, who in 2006 pulled the first 1,000-pound deadlift in competition, and trainer Pavel Tsatsouline built this training manual, first published in 2012, around the lift they consider the best test of total-body strength. The first part covers deadlift, squat and bench press technique, eating, the cycling of training loads, a first-year plan and mindset. The second turns to advanced deadlift work, assistance exercises, the kettlebell swing, ab and back training, and an advanced weekly schedule.
