Deep Work
By Cal Newport
Categories: Business & Money
In this 2016 book, computer science professor Cal Newport defines deep work as the ability to focus without distraction on a cognitively demanding task, and argues that this skill is both rare and valuable. Newport contrasts deep work with shallow tasks such as email and social media, then sets out four rules for building the habit: work deeply, embrace boredom, quit social media and drain the shallows. He offers strategies for scheduling focused time, with examples from writers, scientists and business leaders.
