Defiance: A Memoir of Awakening, Rebellion, and Survival in Syria is a 2026 book by Syrian photojournalist and writer Loubna Mrie, published by Viking. Mrie grew up in an Alawite family, the minority sect of the Assad family, with a father who served the regime. When the uprising began in 2011 she joined the opposition, breaking with her father, and later worked as a photographer documenting the civil war. The memoir recounts her rebellion, losses and exile.
