Empire of the Summer Moon
By S. C. Gwynne
Categories: History
S. C. Gwynne's 2010 history follows the Comanches, the horseback people who dominated the southern plains, through some forty years of war with American settlers and soldiers over territory. The story begins in 1836 with the kidnapping of nine-year-old Cynthia Ann Parker, who grew up to marry a Comanche chief. Their son, Quanah Parker, became the last great Comanche war chief, and Gwynne uses the family to show the clash of two cultures from both sides.
