Essays
By Plutarch
Categories: History, Religion & Spirituality
Plutarch, best known for his Parallel Lives, also wrote dozens of essays on ethics and religion. This Penguin selection presents ten, translated by Robin Waterfield and introduced and annotated by Ian Kidd. The pieces range from practical advice on listening, on telling a flatterer from a friend and on controlling anger to speculative essays on God's slowness to punish and on reason in animals. Also included is a letter of consolation to his wife, written after their small daughter died.
