Categories: Literature & Fiction
Ray Bradbury's 1953 dystopian novel is set in a future America where books are outlawed and firemen burn any that are found. Guy Montag is a fireman who takes pride in his work until a curious young neighbor, Clarisse, makes him question his life and his marriage to Mildred, who is absorbed in wall-sized television screens. When he begins secretly keeping books, he puts himself in danger. Written during the McCarthy era, the novel explores censorship, conformity and mass media.
