George Washington: A Biography
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, History
This Da Capo edition (1994) condenses Washington Irving's five-volume Life of George Washington, issued between 1855 and 1859, into one volume edited and introduced by Charles Neider. Irving, who was named after Washington and met him as a child, traces his life from his youth in Virginia and service in the French and Indian War through command of the Continental Army, Valley Forge and Yorktown to the presidency and retirement at Mount Vernon. Irving finished the work shortly before his own death in 1859.
