Go Up for Glory
By Bill Russell
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, Sports & Outdoors
Russell's first memoir, written with William McSweeny in 1966, appeared midway through his playing career with the Boston Celtics. He recalls growing up in Monroe and Oakland, his two NCAA titles with San Francisco and his central role in the Celtics' run of titles. Russell speaks frankly about the racism he encountered as a Black athlete, in segregated towns and in Boston itself. Dutton reissued it in 2020, adding a foreword by Russell.
