Grief Is the Thing with Feathers (2015) is Max Porter's debut novel, a mix of prose and poetry about a family in mourning. After their mother's sudden death, two young boys and their father, a scholar writing a book about the poet Ted Hughes, are visited in their London flat by Crow, a trickster figure who says he will stay until they no longer need him. Told by the father, the boys and Crow, the story follows the family as they learn to live with their loss.
