Handmade Houses: A Guide to the Woodbutcher's Art
By Art Boericke, Barry Shapiro
Categories: Arts & Photography, Crafts, Hobbies & Home
Handmade Houses is a 1973 book by writer Art Boericke and photographer Barry Shapiro celebrating owner-built homes of the American West. The book tours houses made by hand from salvaged timber, stone and found materials, mostly in Northern California and the Pacific Northwest, many built by people with no formal training. Shapiro's photographs and Boericke's text show the craftsmanship, improvisation and personal character of these homes, and the book became a classic of the counterculture building movement.
