Henry IV, Part 2
Categories: Drama, Literature & Fiction
The sequel to Henry IV, Part 1, printed in 1600, returns to an aging, sleepless king facing a new rebellion led by the Archbishop of York. Prince Hal, his heir, seems more at home with Falstaff and the tavern crowd than at court. Falstaff, recruiting soldiers in Gloucestershire, reminisces with the country justice Robert Shallow. Shakespeare gave much of the play to illness, age and memory as it builds toward the question of succession.
