Categories: History
History Matters (Simon & Schuster, 2025) gathers essays and speeches by historian David McCullough, edited after his death by his daughter Dorie McCullough Lawson and researcher Michael Hill. Many appear in print for the first time. McCullough argues for the value of history to citizens, writes about Harry Truman, George Washington, Thomas Eakins and Harriet Beecher Stowe in Paris, honors mentors such as Paul Horgan and reflects on the hard work of writing well, his typewriter and the books that shaped him.
