Hitler: A Biography

Hitler: A Biography (2008) is historian Ian Kershaw's one-volume life of Adolf Hitler, condensed from his two-volume study, Hubris and Nemesis. Kershaw examines how an unremarkable man rose to absolute power in Germany. Central to his account is the idea of officials "working towards the Führer", anticipating Hitler's wishes, which he uses to explain how the Nazi state radicalised and drove Europe into war and genocide. The book follows Hitler from his Austrian youth to his death in Berlin in 1945.

- Ben Shapiro: “Ian Kershaw's two-part biography of Hitler is sort of the gold standard in terms of Hitler biography.”
