Hop on Pop
By Dr. Seuss
Categories: Children's Books
Subtitled "The Simplest Seuss for Youngest Use," Hop on Pop (1963) pairs short rhyming words, such as up and pup or house and mouse, with a tiny scene that puts them to work. Each spread groups words that differ by a letter or two, helping very young children see how sounds and spellings connect. Its title page joke has children bouncing on their father, and near the end a dad shows off by reading Constantinople and Timbuktu.

- Richard Branson: “I have been reading a lot of books by one of my favourite authors, Dr Seuss... There is more wisdom and humour in his cartoons and rhymes than in any number of lengthy and highbrow books.”
