Horton Hatches the Egg
By Dr. Seuss
Categories: Children's Books
Horton the elephant made his debut in this 1940 picture book. When Mayzie, a lazy bird, flies off to Palm Beach, he agrees to sit on her egg, and he keeps his word through a winter storm, the jeers of his friends and capture by hunters, who sell him to a traveling circus. His refrain, that he meant what he said and said what he meant, makes Dr. Seuss's story an enduring fable about loyalty and promises kept.

- Richard Branson: “I have been reading a lot of books by one of my favourite authors, Dr Seuss... There is more wisdom and humour in his cartoons and rhymes than in any number of lengthy and highbrow books.”
