How the Mind Works
Categories: Science & Math
How the Mind Works is a 1997 book by the Harvard cognitive scientist Steven Pinker, published by W. W. Norton and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction. Pinker explains the mind as a system of mental organs shaped by natural selection to solve the problems our hunter-gatherer ancestors faced. Combining computational theory with evolutionary psychology, he covers vision, reasoning, emotions, family relationships, romance, art, humor and religion, arguing that these all have roots in how the brain processes information.
