I Wonder as I Wander: An Autobiographical Journey
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs
I Wonder as I Wander (1956) is the second volume of Langston Hughes's autobiography, following The Big Sea, and covers the 1930s. Hughes describes touring the American South reading his poetry, traveling to Haiti and Cuba, and spending a year in the Soviet Union, including a long journey through Central Asia. He goes on to China, Japan and Spain during its civil war. Written in a light, observant style, it records his encounters with people from many backgrounds and his life as a working writer.
