Ice in the Bedroom
Categories: Humor & Entertainment, Literature & Fiction
A cache of stolen diamonds, the ice of the title, ends up hidden in a suburban villa in Ice in the Bedroom (1961). The novel returns to Valley Fields, the leafy London district Wodehouse used in several books. The hunt for the loot involves Freddie Widgeon of the Drones, the romantic novelist Leila Yorke, and the con artists Soapy and Dolly Molloy and Chimp Twist, all of whom take a keen interest in the house.

- Fareed Zakaria: “P. G. Wodehouse. I’ve read almost everything he wrote. He once explained that there were two ways of writing novels. “One is mine, making the thing a sort of musical comedy without music, ignoring real life altogether; the other is going right down deep into life and not caring a damn.” He did the former better than almost anyone.”
