In Defense of Elitism (2019) is journalist Joel Stein's comic account of his attempt to understand the populist anger behind Donald Trump's election. Stein, a self-described coastal elite, spends time in Miami, Texas, a small town where most voters chose Trump, and interviews figures across the political spectrum. Mixing humour with argument, he defends expertise and education while examining the resentments that divide Americans.
