Jill the Reckless (1920; U.S. title The Little Warrior) follows Jill Mariner, a spirited young Englishwoman who loses her fortune and her aristocratic fiancé in the same week. She leaves London for New York with her irresponsible Uncle Chris. There she finds work in the chorus of a musical comedy, and P. G. Wodehouse draws on his own years in the theater to describe rehearsals, tryouts and backstage life on Broadway.

- Fareed Zakaria: “P. G. Wodehouse. I’ve read almost everything he wrote. He once explained that there were two ways of writing novels. “One is mine, making the thing a sort of musical comedy without music, ignoring real life altogether; the other is going right down deep into life and not caring a damn.” He did the former better than almost anyone.”
