Knowledge & Decisions

By Thomas Sowell

Categories: Law

Thomas Sowell's 1980 study of how knowledge, which is scattered among millions of people, is turned into decisions through markets, governments, courts and other institutions. Building on Hayek, he compares how well different decision-making processes use dispersed knowledge and argues that shifting decisions to distant elites erodes both efficiency and freedom.
