Liar's Poker
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs
Michael Lewis's 1989 book recounts his years as a bond salesman at Salomon Brothers in the late 1980s, when young traders on Wall Street could make fortunes almost overnight. Lewis describes his training program, the culture of the trading floor and the high-stakes game that gives the book its title. He portrays figures such as Lewis Ranieri, head of the firm's mortgage department, and chief executive John Gutfreund, in a comic account of greed and excess during the rise of mortgage bonds.
