Magnifica Humanitas, the first encyclical of Pope Leo XIV, applies Catholic social teaching to artificial intelligence. Signed on May 15, 2026, the 135th anniversary of Leo XIII's Rerum Novarum, it compares the digital revolution to the industrial upheaval that letter addressed. The pope argues that technology is neither neutral nor inherently evil and must serve human dignity and the common good. He calls for accountability, independent oversight and shared ethical standards, defends workers and urges that AI be disarmed of logics of domination and war.
