May We Feed the King

May We Feed the King is the debut novel of British poet Rebecca Perry, published by Granta in January 2026 and shortlisted for the 2026 Booker Prize. A museum curator who reconstructs scenes from medieval palace life becomes absorbed in the short, uncertain reign of an unnamed and reluctant king. The novel moves between her present-day work and the king's court, where talk of his unfitness and plans to replace him grow, reflecting on history, memory and power.
