Meet Mr Mulliner

Mr. Mulliner, who holds forth in the bar parlor of the Anglers' Rest, has a relative for every situation that comes up in conversation. Meet Mr Mulliner (1927) was the first book of his stories. Its nine tales describe the adventures of his nephews and cousins, among them a timid curate made bold by a tonic called Buck-U-Uppo, a young man with a stammer, and a writer of thrillers whose inherited cottage turns his fiction sentimental.

- Fareed Zakaria: “P. G. Wodehouse. I’ve read almost everything he wrote. He once explained that there were two ways of writing novels. “One is mine, making the thing a sort of musical comedy without music, ignoring real life altogether; the other is going right down deep into life and not caring a damn.” He did the former better than almost anyone.”
