Mike: A Public School Story
Categories: Humor & Entertainment, Literature & Fiction
Mike (1909) follows Mike Jackson, the youngest of a large cricketing family, who arrives at Wrykyn school as a gifted young batsman and spends a triumphant first season in the team. After poor school reports, his father moves him to the small school of Sedleigh, where he refuses to play cricket out of loyalty to Wrykyn. There he meets Psmith, a monocled, talkative newcomer, and the two form a friendship that carried on through later books.

- Fareed Zakaria: “P. G. Wodehouse. I’ve read almost everything he wrote. He once explained that there were two ways of writing novels. “One is mine, making the thing a sort of musical comedy without music, ignoring real life altogether; the other is going right down deep into life and not caring a damn.” He did the former better than almost anyone.”
