Mindfulness
Categories: Self-Help
Mindfulness (1989) by Harvard psychologist Ellen J. Langer contrasts mindless behaviour, driven by habit and fixed categories, with mindful attention to the present. Drawing on experiments, Langer shows how people act on autopilot and how this affects health, work and ageing. She argues that creating new categories, welcoming new information and seeing more than one perspective can make people more creative and in control of their lives.
