Mohawk is a 1986 novel by Richard Russo, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Empire Falls. It was his first novel and is set in a declining upstate New York tannery town. The novel follows several families in Mohawk, New York, including Anne Grouse, her teenage son Randall, and her ex-husband Dallas, a gambler. Their lives are tied to the town's leather tanneries, which have poisoned the river and its people, as old secrets and illnesses come to light.
