Morality: Restoring the Common Good in Divided Times
By Jonathan Sacks, Baron Sacks
Categories: Politics & Social Sciences, Religion & Spirituality
In Morality (2020), Rabbi Jonathan Sacks argues that liberal democracies have outsourced morality to the market and the state, leaving individuals freer but more isolated and societies more divided. Drawing on history, philosophy, economics and religious thought, Sacks traces a cultural shift from "we" to "I" and links it to loneliness, polarisation and the loss of trust. He calls for rebuilding the common good through families, communities and a shared moral language, arguing that freedom cannot survive without them.
