In Move Fast and Break Things (2017), writer and producer Jonathan Taplin argues that Google, Facebook and Amazon have come to dominate culture and the economy at the expense of artists and democracy. Taplin traces how the libertarian ideas of Silicon Valley shaped these companies, and how their control of online advertising and distribution undercut musicians, filmmakers, writers and journalists. He calls for antitrust action and new rules to restore a fairer share of revenue to creators.
