Murder Trials
By Cicero
Michael Grant translates and introduces the speeches the Roman orator Cicero gave in murder trials, in a Penguin Classics edition. Cicero defends Sextus Roscius of Ameria, accused of killing his father; Aulus Cluentius Habitus, charged with poisoning; Gaius Rabirius; and King Deiotarus, accused of plotting against Julius Caesar. A note covers the speeches for Caelius and Milo, and Grant's notes explain the legal and political background.

- Ryan Holiday: “What makes Cicero's courtroom strategies so impressive is the fact that he never bothers to dispute the evidence against his clients. In both the defenses of Roscius and Cluentius, he doesn't even use a single witness. He doesn't offer contradictory evidence or waste much time with alibis.”
