Muslim Girl: A Coming of Age
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, Religion & Spirituality
Amani Al-Khatahtbeh was nine years old and living in New Jersey when she watched the September 11 attacks, and that same year she heard her first racial slur. Her memoir traces growing up Muslim in America through the war on terror and the anti-Muslim commentary that followed. A family trip at thirteen to Jordan, her father's homeland, reshapes how she sees her faith. Feeling unheard in the media, she creates the website MuslimGirl and builds a team of Muslim women writers.
