Sonia Sotomayor, who joined the U.S. Supreme Court in 2009, recounts her life from a childhood in a Bronx housing project to Princeton and Yale Law School. She describes being diagnosed with diabetes at seven and losing her father, an alcoholic, at nine. She credits her mother, her grandmother and mentors with pushing her forward, and follows her work as a Manhattan prosecutor and a lawyer. The memoir ends with her appointment as a federal judge in 1992.
